I sat in Biology class with my eyes glued to the power point that shadowed over the lecture hall. There were letters scattered across the screen- K, A, B, C...all which had the word Vitamin written in front of them. They all served different purposes, but they all shared one goal- to keep the human body in the best shape for as long as they could help it. I learned something new every day, and as I soaked in the information on the importance of nutrition, I began to apply it to my life style. Soon enough, I started noticing changes in my physical appearance, and was overwhelmed with an abundance of energy. My new found nutritional habits gradually began to work on immunizing and strengthening my internal organs, which reflected itself through my outer appearance with a glow like never before.
As I slowly fall back into my fitness regime, I am remembering the importance of nutrition and once again exercising nutritional guidelines. I returned home from church the other day and was notified that a facebook friend ironically tagged me to a post about health, and suddenly, it dawned on me! Why not start a blog about how spiritual and nutritional health correlate? You see, just like we need to feed ourselves nutritional foods like leafy greens, and meats filled with protein to remain healthy, our souls yearn for spiritual nourishment (perhaps even more than your stomach growls for the double bacon cheeseburger your thinking of scarfing down later today). Our souls yearn for answers to questions that are beyond us- for answers which can only come from our creator. “Everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.” Colossians 1:16
When I began to acknowledge the importance of nourishing my body with the right foods and vitamins, I took the first step towards changing my lifestyle and I reaped the benefits internally as well as externally. God wants and will do the same for us as we open up our eyes to realizing the importance of His word. His word is the only thing that can nourish our souls and keep us in line with our purpose. “Surrender your whole being to Him to be used for righteous purposes.” Romans 6:13
The purpose of this blog is to share thoughts and ideas about nutrition while incorporating spirituality. And while everything has a purpose, like this blog for instance, so do we as humans and individuals. We often spend a lifetime (and for some maybe 2 days) in search of what our purpose is, but the answer is a lot more primitive than what we want to believe. We want to make things a lot more complicated than what they really are, like completely cut carbs. from our diets when all we really have to do is eat carbs. in moderation, or use artificial, chemically filled pills to decrease our weight when the answer really lies in the treadmill parked in your garage covered in dust and spider webs. We go to the ends of the earth looking for spiritual wellness, when the answer lies in the book that's existed longer than most can remember and has been written in thousands of different languages for our convenience. Just like the answer to health can lie in a single vitamin, the answer to your life can lie right in a single scripture.
For anyone who knows me knows that when I learn something exciting and new, I love to share it with everyone; there's nothing like knowledge and it exists to be shared among others. I want to share what I discover and what I believe can have great significance and can serve as an ounce of wisdom, and I hope that in some small way it can help.
My purpose in life? Well, my purpose in life is beyond me-- as I fulfill mine I hope this can help lead you to yours!
