reality. check.

Reality check! A large number of American's suffer/die from heart disease, and one of the risk factors is an inadequate consumption of fruits and veggies! Now, some of you may be in your early twenties and figure this doesn't pertain to you, however, heart disease is a gradual process and symptoms may take years to surface. The actions we take today, effect our tomorrow. If we don't make positive choices about what we put into our bodies, it can take us to a place where we find ourselves left in utter misery-- and then, it will be too late…

Reality check! We want to think we have total control over our lives, but no matter what we want to believe, God is a SOVEREIGN God- which means he knows all, rules all and controls all; he is all powerful! God created this world, and everything outside of it. Nothing happens without God's knowledge, he controls this world and whether we want to believe it or not- he controls every little detail of what happens on this planet. He is alpha and omega, however we are mere mortals. God gives us the option to submit to him so that we can live eternally.

We like to believe submission is a sign of weakness, but submitting to God is a sign of wisdom, because we are ultimately safe in God's hands rather than trying to control our own destinies, which only leads us nowhere [fast]! "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.

The reality is, God rules over all, we have no control, no power- because this is his world. He does give us an option, but if we don't make that choice to live according to his word today, you will find yourself in utter misery-- and then it will be too late…

tomorrow is not promised.

Can I have a side of sin with that...

Thought this was funny!...no such thing as healthy fast food

So, I recently returned from a road trip to Texas from Chicago (my home town). In attempt to save money, we made several stops to the drive-thru's, which I can admit, was not entirely the worst feeling at the time. However, I paid for it through my actions followed by my consumption of the fast food with my sluggish activity, need for more food after an unreasonable amount of time, and probably an intake of more calories one should consume on average. At some point, I think we have all learned the impact of processed foods on our body...packed with an excessive amount of calories which highly contributes to the obesity epidemic in our country, major cause leading to some of the most common diseases, such as heart disease, and is also loaded with oxidized fat, unhealthy fats which inhibit us from losing weight-- our bodies require foods filled with fiber and healthier fats to function regularly. The fast food route is essentially the route to an unhealthy, and improperly nourished body- which in turn effects your physical, emotional, and mental well being.

The decision to modify your diet can be difficult, but will eventually be rewarding. This decision reminds me of one that can have similar positive impacts on one's spiritual well being. The decision to please God and not our own desires, which means refraining from sin; for sin is good to taste, but digests as if it were gravel. We were all born with a sinful nature, so it's certainly not a piece of cake to resist temptation (For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God - Romans 3:23). This is why God is not expecting us to do it on our own, He wants us to seek Him for help, He wants us to communicate with Him (prayer), and God wants to give us a life of abundance --impossible if we choose to take our own route.

God says in Matthew 11:30 - For my yoke is easy and my burdens are light. This means, if we take on God's way of doing things and give Him our burdens, He will alleviate a lot of the trials and tribulations of life. Still, if we continue to sin and do things our way- we will never see the many blessings God has in store for us. However, as it is written:"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him" 1 Corinthians 2:9. The sinful route is essentially the route to an unhappy, unstable, and purposeless life- which in turn effects your physical, emotional, and mental well being.

It's time to give up the past, take out the trash- and never look back (nutritionally and spiritually)

Birth of Spiritrition

I sat in Biology class with my eyes glued to the power point that shadowed over the lecture hall. There were letters scattered across the screen- K, A, B, C...all which had the word Vitamin written in front of them. They all served different purposes, but they all shared one goal- to keep the human body in the best shape for as long as they could help it. I learned something new every day, and as I soaked in the information on the importance of nutrition, I began to apply it to my life style. Soon enough, I started noticing changes in my physical appearance, and was overwhelmed with an abundance of energy. My new found nutritional habits gradually began to work on immunizing and strengthening my internal organs, which reflected itself through my outer appearance with a glow like never before.

As I slowly fall back into my fitness regime, I am remembering the importance of nutrition and once again exercising nutritional guidelines. I returned home from church the other day and was notified that a facebook friend ironically tagged me to a post about health, and suddenly, it dawned on me! Why not start a blog about how spiritual and nutritional health correlate? You see, just like we need to feed ourselves nutritional foods like leafy greens, and meats filled with protein to remain healthy, our souls yearn for spiritual nourishment (perhaps even more than your stomach growls for the double bacon cheeseburger your thinking of scarfing down later today). Our souls yearn for answers to questions that are beyond us- for answers which can only come from our creator. “Everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.” Colossians 1:16

When I began to acknowledge the importance of nourishing my body with the right foods and vitamins, I took the first step towards changing my lifestyle and I reaped the benefits internally as well as externally. God wants and will do the same for us as we open up our eyes to realizing the importance of His word. His word is the only thing that can nourish our souls and keep us in line with our purpose. “Surrender your whole being to Him to be used for righteous purposes.” Romans 6:13

The purpose of this blog is to share thoughts and ideas about nutrition while incorporating spirituality. And while everything has a purpose, like this blog for instance, so do we as humans and individuals. We often spend a lifetime (and for some maybe 2 days) in search of what our purpose is, but the answer is a lot more primitive than what we want to believe. We want to make things a lot more complicated than what they really are, like completely cut carbs. from our diets when all we really have to do is eat carbs. in moderation, or use artificial, chemically filled pills to decrease our weight when the answer really lies in the treadmill parked in your garage covered in dust and spider webs. We go to the ends of the earth looking for spiritual wellness, when the answer lies in the book that's existed longer than most can remember and has been written in thousands of different languages for our convenience. Just like the answer to health can lie in a single vitamin, the answer to your life can lie right in a single scripture.

For anyone who knows me knows that when I learn something exciting and new, I love to share it with everyone; there's nothing like knowledge and it exists to be shared among others. I want to share what I discover and what I believe can have great significance and can serve as an ounce of wisdom, and I hope that in some small way it can help.

My purpose in life? Well, my purpose in life is beyond me-- as I fulfill mine I hope this can help lead you to yours!

Hosea 4:6
"My people perish for lack of knowledge."
